It may still be 100 degrees outside in Sacramento, but you can feel the change in the air.

Campaign season is finally here. It’s been something of a false spring, what with the constant ads throughout the summer from Meg Whitman and the union-funded ads on Jerry Brown’s behalf.

But more political commercials are coming your way in the very near future. Next week we will see the first ads from Brown himself. His campaign has booked more than $1.2 million in statewide airtime beginning Tuesday. Also next week, the state Chamber of Commerce will weigh in with its own campaign commercials. The chamber endorsed Whitman on Friday, right after it booked some commercial airtime of its own. Brown himself is celebrating the traditional kickoff of campaign season this weekend with events in Santa Ana, Los Angeles, Sacramento and Alameda. Whitman will spend her Saturday in Columbia, Calif.
