Schwarzenegger has no plans to attend (another) GOP convention [Updated]

August 17, 2010 |  4:20 pm

In the fall of 2007, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger told the California Republican Party convention that their party was “dying at the box office.”

Ever since, Schwarzenegger has pretty much skipped out on his ticket to the semiannual GOP show, going to only one of the last four GOP confabs. This weekend, Republican conventioneers will meet in San Diego to root on their ticket in November, led by gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman and Senate hopeful Carly Fiorina.

And Schwarzenegger is again not likely to attend. Aaron McLear, Schwarzenegger’s spokesman, said Tuesday that the governor did not have specific plans either to attend or not attend the GOP gathering. The governor’s schedule, McLear said, remains “flexible to deal with the budget.”

Tuesday marks Day 48 of the fiscal year without a spending plan in place. [Updated at 4:50 p.m.: An earlier version of this post stated that Tuesday was Day 47 of the fiscal year.]
