Bo Derek up for another term on horse-racing board

As the state’s legislative deadline fast approaches, a number of key questions remain unresolved. How will the state close a $19-billion budget gap? What will happen to the hundreds of bills currently pending in the Legislature? And what is Bo Derek’s political future?

Derek, who was appointed to the state horse-racing board by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2008, is up for another term. The famed actress and model’s fate will be determined Senate Rules Committee Wednesday. She is not required to appear before the committee before the vote. The seven-member board, all of whom are appointed by the governor, license nearly 14,000 trainers, jockeys, owners and others involved in the horse-racing industry.
