Now, it's Chiang taking Schwarzenegger to court
State Controller John Chiang filed suit Wednesday to stop Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger from cutting the pay of nearly 200,000 state employees during California's budget stalemate.
The Chiang petition, filed in Sacramento County Superior Court, comes one day after Schwarzenegger filed a petition of his own in the same court to force the controller to reduce state worker wages to $7.25 an hour.
The governor has ordered wages cut as long as the budget stalemate continues. Workers would receive their full back pay once a budget was signed.
The new Chiang cross-complaint calls the pay cuts illegal and says they would force him “to choose between violating the [order] or violating various federal and state laws.”
