Fresh off an infusion of $2.5 million more from his personal warchest, Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner has launched a new television ad attacking Meg Whitman’s voting record.

And since this is a Republican primary after all, Poizner claims by not voting, Whitman missed out on chances to strengthen or defend Proposition 13.

“Meg Whitman says she’s for Prop. 13, but over 100 times she could have voted against higher taxes or more spending. But she didn’t vote. Not once, for 28 years.”

Whitman spokeswoman Sarah Pompei called the ad “a lie,” and said Whitman’s voting record is not as bad as Poizner made it out to be. Whitman herself said she remembers voting in the 1984 and 1988 presidential elections.
