Whitman vows another ‘incremental investment’ to her campaign

Republican Meg Whitman has already donated $39 million of her own money to her campaign for governor -- a state record. Her campaign has burned through the cash at an unprecedented rate, leaving her effort a bit thin financially as the final push for the June primary begins.

On Monday, she hinted that reinforcements are on the way.

“We will be making an incremental investment,” she said somewhat cryptically, when reporters asked about her plans at a Redondo Beach event. Asked what would constitute “incremental” in this free-spending election cycle, Whitman answered, “We’ll let you know as soon as we file the papers and put more money into the campaign.”

Whitman, the former head of EBay, is in no danger of running dry. The richest candidate to ever seek office in California, she has described herself as a billionaire.
