GOP gubernatorial candidate Steve Poizner isn’t backing off his claim that the campaign of rival Meg Whitman has resorted to illegal threats and intimidation to get him out of the race.

Last week, he announced at a news conference that he was reporting the actions of team Whitman to the FBI. The crime? Its consultant advised Poizner to drop out of the race or risk seeing his political career ruined by a millions of dollars worth of Whitman attack ads. The charges were met with no small degree of ridicule by many pundits and political observers.
