Filing opens Tuesday in two Southern California special elections for open Legislature seats

The special elections to succeed two former members of the Legislature from Southern California get underway officially Tuesday, when the candidate filing period opens for the April 13 primaries.

Candidates to succeed former Assemblyman Paul Krekorian (D-Burbank ) and former state Sen. John Benoit (R-Palm Desert) have until the close of the business day on March 1 to file their documents with elections officials in Los Angeles and Riverside counties, respectively.

Krekorian resigned his 43rd Assembly District late last year after winning a hard-fought race for the Los Angeles City Council. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in November appointed Benoit to a vacancy on the the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.
