Supporters of a measure to legalize and tax marijuana are expected to announce Thursday that they have gathered enough signatures to qualify the measure for the November 2010 ballot. The signatures must still be verified by various county officials and submitted to the secretary of state before the measure is placed on the ballot.

Earlier this year, the Assembly Public Safety committee approved a measure calling for the legalization of marijuana, and for pot sales to be taxed. The measure is not expected to move any further in the Legislature this year.
