Haim Saban, the force behind the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and a major Democratic campaign donor, has donated the maximum allowable under state law to Meg Whitman’s gubernatorial campaign. Saban’s donation of $25,900 was posted today on the California secretary of State’s website.

Last year, Saban donated $100,000 to the Los Angeles County Democratic Party and $18,000 to Jerry Brown. Saban also contributed to Los Angeles Democrats Jack Weiss and Zev Yaroslavsky.

But Saban has been known to hedge his bets before. In 2003, he contributed to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger after fighting against the recall of Gray Davis. Months later, he contributed to the campaign committees of Democratic gubernatorial hopefuls Phil Angelides and Steve Westly.
