Coachella roster slowly takes shape (and getting misshapen)

06:25 PM PT, Jan 14 2008

The Photoshop geniuses have been at work again, crafting those nifty faux Coachella posters (yeah, that's one of the fakes below). And the website hasn't even started the countdown yet.

Next week, you can expect an announcement of the roster, which I was told cryptically might include a surprising veteran act or two (not David Bowie) -- and will not include the rumored set by the reunited My Bloody Valentine. Meanwhile, message boards and blogs are bursting with names of the acts heading to Indio for the April 25-27 festival, but precious little information has leaked regarding headliners. Among the bands expected below are hotshot locals Cold War Kids and Autolux. That's a nice start. Here you go, in no particular order -- comment away ...

Stoked on Battles, Portishead and The Verve, other than that...I hope it rounds out with more heavy hitters.

Boo on the MBV tip. Would have LOVED to see that.

If Take That can be nominated for a Brit Award, anything is possible.

the verve, spiritualized, portishead, unkle and my dear louis xiv... woo woo!
i'm ready to sweat!!!

my money is on radiohead to headline. :)

I will be soooo happy if there's a soundgraden reunion for coachella!! It's totally possible

Jens Lekman is amazing live, but I don't think he will translate well to such large rambunctious crowds.

No My Bloody Valentine is a HUGE disappointment. Their reputation will need something major to make up for that loss, like Talking Heads or Pulp.

Bands like Louis XIV do not belong at any festival except the Juggalo Gathering.

My guesses for the veteran acts are R.E.M. and either the Kinks or Prince.

One more thing: NO MORE HARD ROCK OR METAL HEADLINERS! Even if the band is good, they will attract too strong an element of violent, subhuman pond scum.

Yeah, I wouldn't be so excited about Cold War Kids because I was insanely excited to see them at Lolla and they sucked...Be Prepared, Be Very Prepared.

BATTLES
JUSTICE
Cold War Kids
Autolux
Chromeo
VHS Or BETA
DEATH CAB!
Dan Deacon!!

Is Already Good Enough!!!
All I Need Is Some Radiohead, & Maybe Some Animal Collective, OR Mars Volta!

:D
Cant Wait.
Im Saving Money Now!

yet another lineup of heavies who peaked in the '90s. that's cool with me, because i love those bands. but what does that say about the state of new music in 2008, when the biggest music festival in california is headlined by acts who are at least in their mid-30s? what are the kids doing?

that said, i wish MBV were on the bill. hahaa

And no Tom Jones! We don't want all those piles of thrown knickers messing up the polo field.

Rock is dead! long live bands who went to college on mommy's money.

Snapdragon, you are such a queer!
No hard rock please my mom won't le me go.
Speak like a man.

"And no Tom Jones! We don't want all those piles of thrown knickers messing up the polo field."

oh, and then no depeche mode either then... i totally toss knickers for dave gahan...
and maybe neil diamond.

Tegan and Sara, Sun Kil Moon, Cat Power, Spoon, Stephen Malkmus and the dirty Jicks. You heard me.

HOT CHIP. The evidence is clear. If you go to their myspace page you can see they are touring North America in April but their tour ends with San Fransisco, CA on APRIL 24TH! also, when someone posted this detail on the Coachella mssg boards about a week ago (and I responded by noting that they will probably play a dj set because they played live last year - check out their set on The Essential Mix (BBC RADIO ONE) dec. 29 to see what I'm talking about) the thread was DELETED by coachella administration within a matter of hours. Nice job covering up haha

i love seeing grand ole party on that fake poster. how about newly moved to la dead meadow? they rocked arthur fest a couple years back.

Portishead. One word. AND I WILL BE THERE! Let the churro eating begin!

NO DOUBT = the fake poster poster knows nothing.
