White Stripes cancel tour; Meg's health concerns cited

02:39 AM PT, Sep 12 2007

The White Stripes have canceled 18 U.S. concerts through Oct. 10, including a Sept. 19 date at the Forum with local-guys-made-good Cold War Kids opening.

According to a statement from the band:

"The White Stripes announced today that they are canceling their forthcoming tour due to health issues. Meg White is suffering from acute anxiety and is unable to travel at this time. The White Stripes sincerely apologize to their fans. We hate to let people down and are very sorry."

eeep..poor thing. she might want to try yoga or something to help her relax. just stay away from the drugs.
didn't the same thing happen to andrew partridge of xtc once upon a time? which is why they have not played in ages but continued to record.
here's hoping she can get past this.

This is yet another example of how mental illness impacts our society every day. I offer my best wishes to Ms. White for her recovery, and I urge all readers to get informed and get involved in bringing mental health and mental illness out into the light.

Kevin Bronson has covered emerging and indie music since 2002 in his weekly Buzz Bands column in the Calendar Weekend section of the L.A. Times. He adores caffeine, judicious use of falsetto and the 6-4-3 double play. He abhors exclamation points, modern country and any notion that New York City is the center of the cultural universe. He's older than any music blogger he knows but has been known to pogo. He'll try not to pretend.
