The Icky Shuffle

02:20 PM PT, Apr 10 2007

29234ickythump_coverThe White Stripes, arguably the greatest band in existence, have finally set a concrete release date for their new record Icky Thump,  dropping it on the world June 19 on new label Warner Bros. Records.

It remains to be seen whether Jack White has suddenly become a devotee of former Cincinnati Bengals running back Ickey Woods, but he has issued a track listing. Here's to hoping that White's trend of referencing 1980s Super Bowl Heroes continues. Perhaps a B-Side cover of The Fat Boys' "Chillin' with the Fridge"?

Tracklist:
01 Icky Thump
02 You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do as You're Told)
03 300 MPH Torrential Outpour Blues
04 Conquest
05 Bone Broke
06 Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn
07 St. Andrew (This Battle Is in the Air)
08 Little Cream Soda
09 Rag and Bone
10 I'm Slowly Turning Into You

The Riverboat Captain

Icky (or ecky) thump, an expression of surprise, in dialect, from those in the North of England (specifically Lancashire and Yorkshire).. presumably Jack's missus taught it to him, since she hails from Bolton, Lancashire :)

Kevin Bronson
Kevin Bronson has covered emerging and indie music since 2002 in his weekly Buzz Bands column in the Calendar Weekend section of the L.A. Times. He adores caffeine, judicious use of falsetto and the 6-4-3 double play. He abhors exclamation points, modern country and any notion that New York City is the center of the cultural universe. He's older than any music blogger he knows but has been known to pogo. He'll try not to pretend.

Bronson's Buzz Bands show can be heard Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. Pacific time on the Internet radio station LittleRadio.com.
