Here's another fun video captured by Myung Chun, including a great tunnel shot that shows the vast crowd of skivvy-clad revelers. My favorite part is when the guy says people are "too frumpy looking" to do this in places like Washington, D.C.
One of the greatest college traditions in America, the UCLA Undie Run takes place in the middle of the school's quarterly finals. Thousands of Bruins bare (almost) all and run through campus in a moment of organized rebellion. The event, which was held Wednesday night, is intended to alleviate the pressure that comes with big exams.
Student bodies want to look their best, so underwear sales in Westwood Village spike in the run-up. American Apparel is a popular pick, but it is not the blue-and-gold standard. Victoria's Secret doubles its business on the big day, and it has better sales figures than on Black Friday (or "Pink Friday," as they like to call it).
This year, the UCLA Undie Run underwent some changes as administrators tried to make the route safer for students and library windows (which have been broken in the past). By diverting participants to the intramural field instead of climbing toward Powell Library, there was considerable less panty-ing uphill.
An estimated 1,000 people ran this week, slightly less than previous runs. It was a chilly night, after all. As the crowd dispersed, UCLA Dean of Students Robert Naples indicated that things appeared to have gone smoothly. If anybody is named in follow-up reports, he or she could find themselves on double-Victoria's-secret probation.
Now that I've got your attention, here's the release from UCLA about Monday night's show (and giveaway):

Mayo and Andy Oliver will be discussed, in addition to other topical trends in compliance.
Guests will include Tye Gonser, Dreier Sports Opportunities; Naima Stevenson, NCAA assistant general counsel; Rich Herczog, UCLA director of compliance; and Marc Isenberg, author of "Money Players." It will be moderated by Steve Derian, professor of sports law at UCLA.

When most people hear UCLA and Victoria's Secret mentioned together, they think of Undie Run.
On Thursday night, American's favorite intimates company will sponsor
Pinkapalooza at the Santa Monica Pier to launch its new
back-to-school collection. The Pink collegiate line includes UCLA sweats, T-shirts, totes and, of course, underwear.
The festival will run from 5 to 10 p.m., headlined by a Fall Out Boy
concert at 9 p.m. (who said emo and preppy can't get along?). There also will be a contest between UCLA and USC fans, with the winning
school getting a sponsored tailgate for this year's rivalry game at the
Rose Bowl. The first 3,000 people to show up with a pass (you can print it here) will also get free rides and games all night.
For those who haven't been there, Santa Monica Pier has been the host for some great events this summer, including Ronnie Renner's world-record-breaking motorcycle jump. Organizers expect 15,000 people for Pinkapalooza.
Adam Rose grew up in a house divided between UCLA and USC ... now he's writing about both. He served as Sports Editor for LAist (covering a wide range of local action) and is also a regular on KNBC 4's News Raw. Adam manages special events in the sports community when he isn't participating himself (he staggered through the LA Marathon and can often be found on local soccer fields). If you have a question about the Bruins, Trojans, or just want to give him a piece of your mind, email: adam@laist.com.
