'The football monopoly in Los Angeles is officially over'
If you picked up The Times on Monday, you couldn't have missed this ad.
It ran in the sports section and took up a quarter of a page.
Click the photo for a larger version.
Or click here to download the PDF version so you can blow it up and put it on the wall.
If you've got an over-sized printer at work, you might want to make a poster to hang at your desk.
Or put it somewhere on your USC co-worker's desk where he won't see it for awhile.
Not that we know anybody who would do that.

Wow! That's good!
That makes about as much sense as the street banners on Fair Oaks in Pasadena. They say something like The Rose Bowl: Champions Are Made Here - with a photo of the Bruins underneath.
I'm OFFICIALLY laughing my (tail) off.

The poster from South Central: USC FOOTBALL: Enjoy us before we go on probation!!!
Posted by: Tom | August 26, 2008 at 06:03 PM
Yeah, and I'm always laughing my ass off about how a corrupt U$C program can pawn itself off as legitimately successful...
By the way, I'm certain that the UCLA college basketball monopoly in Los Angeles is just beginning.

..The college football rankings dont seem to reflect that..

Two points for those with short attention spans:
1.) UCLA owned SC in the '90s when they won 4 or 5 straight years. Last victory over SC: only 2 years ago.
2.) Note to AG: The Rose Bowl is UCLA's home field and UCLA has more NCAA national championships than any other school. Who's laughing now?
Posted by: Tim Corcoran | August 26, 2008 at 09:33 PM
Really? Why not just hand Pete Carroll the red pen to circle Dec. 6th on the calendar in the USC locker room.
Posted by: Pittsy | August 26, 2008 at 10:39 PM
Tim -
Since when does the Rose Bowl have anything to do with UCLA's basketball, gymnastics, etc etc championships? No doubt UCLA has a great legacy in sports, but your response makes no sense in this context.
We're talking about football and the last time I checked, the last Champion made at the Rose Bowl was USC.
Tom - I like your south central comment - that was pretty funny.

STUPID!!!

This is what is wrong about UCLA football program they are focus on usc and the big game. You got to understand if you look ahead in the draw your forgeting about the teams in the beginning you got to play those games first and you need to win. For one game doesn't really make a season unless your season is already over.

I'm a longtime UCLA football season ticket holder and I just wish the UCLA marketing people would dial down the hype until there's something to actually talk about. I love the Bruins, but they're not going to win the Pac 10 and they're certainly not going to beat USC, though I hope they do. I just hope they stay competitive and not get blown out too often this season. So let's keep it real guys. Go Bruins!

Now the Trojies know how we Bruins feel when SC claims it is equal to UCLA in academics.

UCLA! We're >25!
Posted by: Nutzack | August 27, 2008 at 01:05 PM
UCLA has most of the pieces, needing only an experienced O-Line and a healthy QB. Huge parts for sure, but otherwise their talent on D and at the Offensive skill positions is up there with anyone in the country, except USC. By the way, did anybody notice that UCLA students and alumni won 16 medals in Beijing, including 4 gold? USC students and alumni won 21, including 9 gold.

If you thought UCLA was going to lose before this, they're really going to get blown out in December! Pete Caroll always has the troops ready for the big games and this will only provide more ammunition. At least, try marketing like this when you have a product to selll. Do they really think UCLA is going to rebuild overnight? And why would you go to UCLA now, when USC is on top?

All the ad said was the monopoly was over, and it is. We have the best coaching staff and the most attractive school. $C is like a black hole on the verge of implosion. Either the improper benefits or the hype of over-recruiting and in-fighting for playing time. $C has won 1.5 national championships in 7 years under PC and -0- since Chow left. $C has choked against Stanford, OSU and UCLA, how they don't go undefeated with all of their talent is an absolute mystery. Yep, it's over and while it may not be this year or next year, it is definitely O V E R, the Streak is safe and the true Trojans knew it when Chow came home to give Pom Pom a little payback....

Oh great...now I have co-workers who graduated from other universities making fun of my football team...thanks a lot!

Hey AG. Just for your info the last Champions crowned at the Rose Bowl were the Texas Longhorns that beat $C's cocky, showboating team.
Tell Reggie Bush I said hi.

two questions:
how many 11 win seasons have the bruins EVER had?
how many 11 win seasons has usc had in the past 6 years?
Posted by: peter d | August 29, 2008 at 05:53 PM
For the benefit of you Bruin fans who haven't already figured this out, Rick Neuheisel is a creep. I can't fathom what possessed UCLA to hire him. Just hope that after he has shown his typical behavior and run off to another job (again), he won't have damaged a fine program and a fine university too badly.

"Living in SEC / ACC country (Florida) and being a UCLA-Fan is a sick feeling from year to year... when I mention PAC-10 Football, they all just laugh at me. And when we finally met up with FSU in the SF-Bowl a few years ago, they laughed even louder! I just want respect and that started last night in the OT win over the Volunteers. I would love someday to faceoff with the Gators or Georgia or LSU or ?? for the championship someday. But for right now, I'll take another Rose Bowl victory for sure. JEV

How embarrassing Neuheisel , you should be embarrassed of that Bruin football team ..... I wouldn't call myself a coach! If they keep playing like that you'll be in line at the unemployment office next year. (maybe then you can collect monoploy money, I'm sure that what you/they meant)
Thanks for the win though …. it’s good for the BCS standings! Go Trojans!

"it’s good for the BCS standings"
haha LOL I'm sure that's what they said two yrs ago before the final score showed 13-9
love jokes that makes my day!
go bruins!

I came back to this post just to print off the poster to put in my classroom (I get a lot of mileage out of talking about sports with my reluctant students, so stuff like this gets that going), but I love seeing all the new posts here! What an amazing way to start the season!! I've been telling anyone who will listen for the last 4 months that we're going to have the most amazing 7-6 season in football history. It will include wins against Tennessee, USC, and Boise St. in the Hawaii Bowl. In between we will have embarrassing losses to Fresno St., Oregon, Stanford, and maybe a few others. Whatever. As I predicted, we pulled off the nationally televised shocker on Monday, and we'll do the same in December. Because that's what Slick Rick brings to the table: an ability to fire up his players and execute with precision in the big games. This is still a rebuilding year, but if I was a trojan fan, I'd be worried. This is not basketball, where one win over the Bruins every five years hardly registers. This is football, where SC is always supposed to be good but always has trouble with their rival. 13-9. 8 consecutive wins. Monopoly barely established... and now gone.

Ruins, today is September 13, 2008. Did you get any score on BYU game? It is 59-0. I have modified this poster a little bit to "The football program in Wastewood is officially ruined."
Enjoy being shut out for the rest of the season.
GO TROJANS!!!

really, last I checked the gutty little ones have won once since 1998. doesn't seem like they're giving USC too much trouble 1-7 since the arrival of Pete Carroll.
