Rome burns Neuheisel
Jim Rome took a rip (or four) at Rick Neuheisel on his TV show Thursday. The commentary had to do with a fundraiser in which Neuheisel auctioned a sideline pass for the showdown against USC — and an opportunity to call the first play of the game.
Here's where we first heard about it. Of course, it seems the Neuheisel might have been kidding and his stipulation that "we may audible your call" is proof that he's still putting his law degree to use.

I've always hated Jim Rome. The guy is a douche. Love his goatee...really completes the image.

HA HA HA HA HA that was hilarious, I don't really like Rome that much anymore but what in the bruin is the coach thinking about that is a putdown on his own program.

Wow this is SO ridiculous. I was there and what Neuheisal said was all in good fun. They were not having "trouble" selling it, he just wanted to raise even more money for the athletic department. He said "come on you can call the first play!! but I can't promise you we won't call an audible" aloud for all to hear. We were all laughing. You think he is gonna let a fan call a crazy play that could ruin the game? Come on, this guy is not stupid - he is actually great with the fans. I guess whatever he does, jokingly or not, is undera a microscope...

Wow, that was my post on Bruin Zone I didn' t think it would cause such a stir.
Really it wasn't such a big deal. I was just trying to give an example of Rick trying to stir up the pot and juice up what was until then a pretty stoic audience.

Amazing how a "reporter" can comment on something when he wasn't there. I was, and uclafan11 is correct. RN even joked that there is no guarantee that we won't call an audible. I talked to him afterwards and said I wanted to call the last play. At the same time we both answered, take a knee, and laughed.
