UCLA-Michigan: pregame

It’s cloudy and about 40 degrees today in Ann Arbor, Mich., with rain predicted tonight as 10-1 UCLA visits 4-7 Michigan at Crisler Arena. Of note:

>> The Bruins are averaging 75.7 points per game and giving up just 54.3 (margin +21.4) while the Wolverines are producing just 68.5 and giving up 71.8 (-3.3).

>> Michigan is 3-2 at home while the Bruins have a sparkling 3-0 neutral site record; this will be the Bruins’ first game in an opposing team’s arena. UCLA's three road games have all been at neutral sites (CBE Classic in Kansas City and Wooden Classic in Anaheim).

>> Bruin Coach Ben Howland has a 3-1 record against Michigan and the Bruins lead the series, 10-3, having won three in a row. Howland’s Bruins lost at Crisler Arena in the 2003-04 season, 70-66, but won in 2005-06, 68-61.

>> Wolverine Coach John Beilein is in his first year since coming over from West Virginia (where his Mountaineers beat the Bruins in each of the last two seasons). He's already shuffling the personnel; he picked up a transfer from Arizona, guard Laval Lucas-Perry, who won’t be eligible until next season. But Michigan lost wing K’Len Morris, who decided to transfer.

>> Michigan is led by 6-5 freshman guard Manny Harris, who averages 16.1 points a game and is tied for the team lead with 4.9 rebounds a game. Sophomore forward DeShawn Sims is the only other Wolverine who averages in double figures, at 13.6. This "Detroit Duo" accounts for 43.4% of the Michigan scoring.

UCLA is favored by 15 points today with an over-under of 135, so the oddsmakers have the final as Bruins 75, Wolverines 60.
