Temple statement on Golden’s withdrawal

Here’s the statement released by Temple announcing Al Golden’s withdrawal as a candidate for UCLA football coach:

"Temple head football coach Al Golden withdrew his name over the holidays from consideration for the head coach position at UCLA, school officials announced on Wednesday.

"‘I am flattered to have been contacted about the coaching vacancy at UCLA,’ Golden said.

"‘UCLA is a world-class institution, and Athletic Director Dan Guerrero is a first-class person. However, we are on the brink of something truly special here at Temple. Our staff, student-athletes, and I look forward to what Temple Football will accomplish in the future; we have some unfinished business to take care of.’

"‘We knew when we hired Al Golden to be Temple's head football coach that he would achieve the kind of success that would draw attention from other schools,’ said Temple Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw. ‘There are great seasons ahead for Temple football, and we are happy Coach Golden has chosen to remain with our program for some time to come.’"

We need to fire our AD:

Norm Chow's press release stated, “I was given no indication as to what their final decision will be, or what their timing is to make that decision”

Now we are getting rejected by Golden? This is downright embarrassing. We are supposed to be a premier program, and Golden is a nobody (sorry but I am not impressed with the highlight of his career being a 4 win season), and HE rejects US?

On a related rant, Lou Holtz said that UCLA football program is the best HC opportunity to come along in a while. This begs the question: Has anyone approached Lou? I'm betting no.

This is just plain incompetency and indicative of the lack of leadership needed for a successful program. I say it’s time to get rid of Dan Guerrero.

I'm curious if there's something that isn't already public, about why coaches might be shy on wanting to take on the job at UCLA.

And Neuheisel 's legacy isn't exactly pristine with what had been going on at Colorado and Washington, so I can't imagine why his name is still in the mix.

Anyone?

Gerrrg the answer to your question about Neuheisel is DumpDorrell.com.

Nobody wants the job after they have seat with the AD, maybe he hasn't lost the Irvine attitude yet, which if you have ever lived, worked, or even been to Irvine you would know what i mean. It looks as tough they are going lose Walker and were does that leave them, i mean they really have a bunch of good kids on the way and if they don't make a pick soon the cupboard will be dry.

I mean i am a sc fan and i feel that recruiting class is better than ours this year?
