Asuza Pacific at UCLA: second half
UCLA cruised to a 111-61 win over Azusa Pacific on Friday night at Pauley Pavilion, led by Josh Shipp's 20 points and Darren Collison's seven assists and two steals.
Freshman center Kevin Love's debut was impressive to say the least: He hit a double-double in points and rebounds at 8:55 p.m., just 82 minutes after tip-off. He finished with 15 points on 6-10 shooting and had 12 rebounds. He had three assists, one blocked shot and made both of his free throws.
As expected by UCLA Coach Ben Howland, the Bruins had excellent balance, with six players — Shipp, Collison, Love, Russell Westbrook, Michael Roll and Nikola Dragovic — in double figures. Against an undermanned Azusa Pacific squad that was breaking in a new coach and five new starters, the Bruins shot 59.4% from the floor for the game.
UCLA got out to a 48-26 halftime lead, then extended it by shooting 65.8% in the second half, most of them either inside layups or uncontested three-point bombs by Shipp, Roll and Dragovic.
