Scott on Scott: "It’s the greatest feeling in the world"

Reinstated wide receivers coach Eric Scott walked on to Spaulding Field at the end of Saturday’s late practice and received hugs from receivers Brandon Breazell and Marcus Everett and defensive end Bruce Davis before meeting with reporters. He said, quietly, of his return, "It’s the greatest feeling in the world; you don’t how it feels until its gone from you. I’m happy to be back."

Obviously chastened by the experience, Scott said "There are a million and one versions about [the incident]. I don’t want to go into detail about it. The D.A. made his decision and the media did their thing . . . and it all worked out right."

Asked what he learned between his arrest on July 24 and now, Scott said "I never want to feel like this again. That was the biggest lesson for me.

"This experience is not one I would wish on anybody in this position."

Scott said "I was certain everything would be OK. I was more so, hurt and embarrassed for the university, you know, everyone and the coaches and the families of the coaches . . . they had to go through the experience also.

"I was real certain that it would turn out [as it did]."

Asked about his session with head coach Karl Dorrell, Scott noted "We pretty much discussed what all employees of the university are expected to be, and I just fall in those same guidelines." Scott confirmed that he also met with UCLA Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dan Guerrero.

As for football and coaching the wide receivers, Scott said "Everything else is pretty much just back to business when it comes to this." He indicated he was caught up on what had been done in practice, but was looking forward to working with the receivers to see their level of progress.

Asked if he was excited to be able to start calling recruits again, Scott broke into a wide smile and said with enthusiasm, "Yes, sir."

Hey, Rich, the wide receiver's name is Brandon Breazell, not Brian.

Thanks for sharp eyes; the correction has been made, with thanks.

On the background surrounding the rehiring of Eric Scott, it makes one wonder what are UCLAs employment policies on background checks? Also, if Dan Guerrero only spoke to Scott about UCLA policies (2 years after he's been employed) he better talk to Dorrell as well since he claims that he, Guerrero, knew nothing of Scott's previous run ins with the law. Talk about being blindsided!
