Lindy Vivas In The News Again
Remember Lindy Vivas? The ex-UCLA outside hitter (in volleyball) who was part of two AIAW Final Four teams for the Bruins in 1977 and 1978? And a second-team Volleyball Magazine All-American in 1978?
She’s also the ex-Fresno State women’s volleyball coach who was awarded $5.85 million yesterday in a discrimination suit against the university. As summarized by the Associated Press, Vivas “was fired in 2004, two years after coaching her team to its best season in history. University officials said Vivas was let go because she did not meet performance goals and ran a team that often played in empty arenas.”
Vivas, now 50, had an interesting playing career, lettering for USC in 1976 and then transferring to UCLA for her final two seasons and graduating in 1980 with a degree in Kinesiology.
