Assistant coach Eric Scott arrested

Uclablogpixscott_eric_200x333 If you woke up to the morning news program on KCBS-2, you heard that UCLA wide receivers coach Eric Scott was arrested, along with two other men on a charge of burglary.

CBS2 reported that L.A. County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call to a residence on the 1100 block of Pioneer Boulevard in Norwalk yesterday and found Scott and two other men engaged in burglarizing a house. All three were arrested. Scott was released on $50,000 bail.

Brian Dohn, reporting in the Los Angeles Daily News, noted that Scott was booked at 1:07 p.m., posted bond and was released at 9:25 p.m. The other two men with Scott were identified as Jesus DeAlba and Timothy Williams.

Scott, 32, was set to start his first season as wide receivers coach and has already had a large hand in helping Bruin recruiting in the South Los Angeles area.

My geuss is that this is much ado about nothing. Scott's a smart and reputable guy. He attended Northwestern University before transferring to UCLA as a student-athlete. He is highly regarded.

While troubling on its face, if this story doesn't appear to make sense, which it clearly doesn't, then it probably doesn't make sense. But it makes for good internet fodder for Bruin haters who jump on the story before the facts are out. Remember the Duke Lacrosse team story?

Slow your roll people! We are quick to judge anyone who is arrested.
When all the facts surface we ca can judge this man's character. Even if it's true...people make mistakes and bad choices. To err is human.

TheMan

Silly, Silly Negro.

A,

Yes, we know who Sam Gilbert is. He was a rich bandwagon fan, and Wooden was winning championships LONG before he showed up on the scene.

Hmmm, rich bandwagon fans? Sounds more like another university I know.

Jon from Norwalk

Nothing like those rich dudes from Westwood always coming and causing the poor people trouble.

Big Daddy

I heard they were going to a ecstacy party that Eric Wright, and Desmond
Reed were hosting.

Umm, so breaking and entering into another person's home isn't a crime if all you wanted to take was "your stuff?" Thank GOD we don't live in a world where doing something like that is legal.

And for all the innocent until proven guilty talk, remember that he was caught "in the act," or "L.A. County Sheriff’s deputies responded ... found Scott and two other men engaged in burglarizing a house." I think its fair to say that guilty or not, this is despicable behavior for a COLLEGE FOOTBALL COACH to be even involved in something like this. Karl Dorrell might not be involved with the crime in question, but if he does not fire Eric Scott himself, Dorrell is just as complicit in turning UCLA into a low-quality second-tier football program.

I eagerly await Dorrell's attempt to spin some positive light on this tomorrow at the Pac-10 media day... "My good friend, Eric Scott, was simply trying to supplement the paltry income I pay him, and at the same time show our recruits what type of people this University wants to have on board."

rob

Fire the head coach because an adult makes a bone head move? Are you serious? What, are you still bitter about losing to UCLA? Why? LIG. Have some "Trojan" intelligance; this guy has not COACHED anything for UCLA. This is just a true example of a new hire screwing up.

U-G-L-Y EAT MY SHORTS

Umm... so because the guy hasn't "coached" on the college level, he shouldn't be held up to the same standards? Ok, let's let him get away with this alleged transgression, and hey, if he goes out and commits another burglary, then its fine as well. I mean, he's not a "coach" yet. Its perfectly ok for him. He's immune from prosecution until he steps on the sidelines in the Rose Bowl? Come on! If this was a coach at $C, you'd be just a vehement as I am in calling for his firing.

I'm all for assuming innocence until proven otherwise, but I simply don't see how this can turn out well for Scott. Being arrested in the process of breaking into a home? What type of excuse can you draw up for that?

By the way, I'm a Cal (which outranks UGLY in every possible academic category) fan, and we beat UGLY pretty soundly last year. I remember our players running all over your vaunted "defense" while they couldn't tell left from right. And last time I checked, $C has been beating up on the ruins pretty consistently recently, so stop deluding yourselves over a fluke victory or your supposed "BCS run" that won't occur either this year, or in the forseeable future.

Rick S

Maybe a Bruin can confirm this but allegedly one of the guys with him was that cute dressed Grandpa cheerleader.

Jerry

In my estimation, Cal has a second rate athletic program so it must be hard to be a fan. What? It's been in existence since 1868 and it has a whopping total of 27 NCAA team titles. UCLA since 1927 with ONE HUNDRED. Cal is pretty strong in Rugby and Crew, though. Might be pretty fun to be a fan if the school were in England. Blondie's Pizza is the only thing I find worthwhile about the place.
As to the real question here, innocent until proven guilty but I'm not liking it at all. Sure seems like a poorly thought out hire for such a high profile program.

Mel

He was trying to get the drawing of the new on campus football stadium.

michael r shapiro

What kind of a review does UCLA do before hiring a coach.......this guy has been CONVICTED of crimes before..........great thinking, they hire this guy but let Ken Norton Jr (former ucla star and nfl pro bowler) get hired by SC ........and you wonder why the trojan program makes ucla look like high school????

BigFletch

As a UCLA alum and former player myself I know Ericpersonally and can say emphatically that there is no way that he burglarized anyones home. He's a good guy and a great hire for Dorrell. What's sad, though, is that regardless of the outcoem this may cost Eric his job if for no other reason than people (like the majority of the posters here) will be calling for his head. I feel bad for the guy and I hope that this whole thing is cleared up quickly for everyone's sake. And for all of you bringing up the so called "parking scandle," maybe you all should count how many alleged rapists are layden across each of your rosters... Glass houses people.

Lets think about this logicaly folks, A coach robbing a house hmmm sounds really fishy. Lets try going by the facts, Man went to the residence were he lived for numerouse amount of time with his girlfriend, took his 2 friends to help retrieve the furniture and items that was his. Went there during the day when mans exgirlfriend was suppose to be at work. Someone then called the cops either a neighbor or the ex. Weather he planned this ahead of time with her (she did not want to be around while he took his stuff come by at so and so time) then the neighbor did not know and called the cops or she set him up or he just had a key and decided to do this when she was not home I am sure LA's Finest will sort the finale details out.

washinme

I know Eric and he would not be dum enough to risk his couching career.

This blog is in response to an article by Mr. Tj Simers. Mr. Simers seems to think that Western Kentucky University basketball players did not deserve to be in the sweet sixteen. I am a teacher in Kentucky and my sixth grade students are upset by the comments made by Mr. Simers.
We want to know----isn't the fun part of the tournament--isn't it the best part---isn't it the American way for anybody to appear in the sweet sixteen? We take umbrage at the fact that Mr. Simers seems to think that we have nothing to do in Western Kentucky. We have beautiful farms, excellent schools, and smart students. The following are comments from my students.
"We don't deserve the comments made about us. You don't know us." Destiny
"We do not have a pregnant Elmo, he is called Big Red and we love him." Alex

Mr. Simers,
Put yourself in our shoes. How would you like it if we made fun of you and your school?
