Metrolink service update

As you are probably aware, the MTA will be offering bus service from the Moorpark and Simi Valley stations to the Chatsworth station beginning early Monday and continuing until 11:05 a.m. and offering bus service from Chatsworth to Simi Valley and Moorpark in the early afternoon.

Metrolink is saying on its website that train service from downtown to Ventura County will resume in the afternoon, beginning with the departure of train No. 111 from Union Station at 3:35 p.m. Access to the rest of Metrolink's website remains blocked, as it has been since Friday evening.

Also, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has issued a press release saying that he will be greeting passengers at the Chatsworth station beginning at 6 a.m. and then will board the 6:26 a.m. train in Chatsworth and ride it to Union Station.

It's likely that media will follow the mayor onto the train. If you don't feel like answering questions about how you feel riding the train again just three days after the crash, or just don't want to be bothered, consider yourself warned. That said, I encourage regular riders to pipe up with any thoughts or concerns they have.

MAYOR VILLARAIGOSA TO GREET MTA BUS BRIDGE PASSENGERS, RIDE METROLINK TO WORK

CHATSWORTH: Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will greet passengers riding the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's bus bridge and hold a brief media availability on Monday, September 15, 2008, at 6:00 AM at the Chatsworth Metrolink Station, 10046 Old Depot Plaza Road, Chatsworth, CA 91311.

Following the availability, the Mayor will ride the 6:20 AM Metrolink train from Chatsworth to Union Station.

As an aid to Metrolink passengers, MTA buses will shuttle commuters from the Moorpark Metrolink station to Simi Valley and Chatsworth while clean-up continues at the site of the Metrolink commuter train crash in Chatsworth. The MTA will begin running the buses on Monday, with southbound service leaving from Moorpark beginning at 5:07 AM, and the last northbound MTA bus leaving Chatsworth at 7:44 PM. The MTA will operate this bus bridge until full rail service is restored to the Metrolink line.

Being that Chatsworth is in Los Angeles County, the statement still holds true. Trains are running to Chatsworth, but not beyond. So, trains from Chatsworth to Montalvo/Oxnard will resume this afternoon.

I don't know, I speak English but why do the descriptions of Metrolink service on the Ventura County line, both by Metrolink and Steve Hymon sound like gobbledygook? "...train service from downtown to Ventura County will resume in the afternoon" but "...the Mayor will ride the 6:20 AM Metrolink train from Chatsworth to Union Station." So, is the line running between Chatsworth and Union Station or not? Geesh!!

Of course, the mayor is more likely to shake someone's hand and show up to press conferences rather than actually govern. Still, it is a nice gesture, even though this is meaningless.

Lydia Uribe

So the mayor is going to ride Metrolink 102 to Union Station? That train is sufficiently crowded with regular commuters that we don't need the mayor, his entourage and the media taking up seats that regular riders need...
