Cyclist critically injured in Santa Ana
I hate having to post this in light of the previous post about biking in Copenhagen. But my colleague Mike Anton is reporting that a cyclist was badly injured in what appears to be a hit-and-run crash in Santa Ana earlier this morning. He may also have been robbed. I'll post more details if/when they become available.
UPDATE: Here's what my colleague Mike Anton reported later this afternoon:
A bicyclist who was assaulted and left bloodied in a Santa Ana street early Monday remains hospitalized in grave condition, authorities said.
The man's upper body and head injuries were so severe that police initially thought he had been struck by a hit-and-run driver. Police later concluded that damage to his bicycle was inconsistent with having been struck by a vehicle.
Police responded about 4:30 a.m. to a report of a body in the street in the 800 block of East Stanford Street. Police suspect the man, who has not been identified and remains unconscious, may also have been robbed.
