A deadly Friday on Southern California freeways

Five people were killed this morning in two accidents -- four whose vehicle ran off the freeway and hit a tree in Corona, and a motorcyclist in Carson, where the accident has closed a transition ramp at the 91 and 110 freeways, authorities said.

The Corona accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. west of Lincoln Avenue in the eastbound lanes of the 91 Freeway, according to Russell Kingston, a dispatch supervisor in the California Highway Patrol's Inland Empire communications center.
All occupants of the car were killed, with two being ejected, Kingston said.

The circumstances of the crash were under investigation. The ages of the occupants were not known and it's not clear if drugs or alcohol were a factor.

Some lanes were blocked after the crash, but were cleared by about 4:30 a.m. for commuters, Kingston said.
The motorcyclist was killed on the transition from the northbound 110 Freeway to the eastbound 91 Freeway around 6 a.m., authorities said.

The man, who was in his 30s, died at the scene of the accident, said California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Martin.
