Pasadena Freeway sinkhole update
Caltrans sent the press release below at 10:43 a.m. Motorists headed from downtown L.A. to Pasadena or other destinations in the San Gabriel Valley may want to consider taking Cesar Chavez to Mission to Huntington to reach the Valley.
The press release:
NORTHBOUND SR-110 TO REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL THIS EVENING
SOUTH PASADENA – The northbound Pasadena Freeway (SR-110) will remain closed at the Orange Grove Avenue off-ramp until this evening while the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) repairs a sinkhole that opened up in lanes early this morning.
The sinkhole was caused by corrosion of a storm drain. Crews are currently replacing a 26-foot piece of underground pipe.
Motorists should expect delays.

Stu, the helicopters are probably lonely, so they congregate. It's tough, hovering over LA all day by yourself, with nobody but a monkey in a suit for company. After a while, you start to miss others of your kind. But don't be discouraged. The burning schoolchildren will distract the monkeys riding the helicopters, and they'll all swoop away like excited wasps. You'll have peace & quiet, and the monkeys watching TV will have a fresh spectacle to make them choke on their burritos.

I live about 200yds from this sinkhole. There have been six different helicopters stationed over the hole for varying periods of time since 5.45am. Note to news crews....this is a hole. It can be approached on foot without using jet aircraft fuel and annoying all the local residents. I suppose it'll take two helicopters to collide and explode onto a packed school before anyone questions this bizarre urban behavior.
