Has it come to this?

OK, who's the wise guy? Times reporter Ron Lin passes along this breaking news:

Somebody allegedly made off with 4,000 gallons of diesel fuel last Friday from an Exxon station on San Fernando Boulevard, says a Burbank Police Department press release.

Let's see ... at an average price of $5.127 per gallon, according to today's AAA fuel report for California, times 4,000 ... Wow, $20,508 worth! Investigators "suspect," says the release, that the perp or perps used a tanker truck. (Ya think?)

So, if you see any suspicious tanker trucks cruising through your neighborhood, please call Lt. Armen Dermenjian at (818) 238-3271. Seriously, this must be a huge hit for the station owner who is probably having a tough time keeping competitive when diesel and other fuels are like liquid gold.

Elementary Watson.
It's the tanker truck following that
Mercedes 600 on the 118. Wasn't
the syphon hose a clue (or two)?
Especially with the lightning arrester
chain dangling from it.
Got any other big mysteries to solve?
Say like who killed Nicole Simpson.
