Attention Prius drivers: now there's a name for it
Ever met a Prius driver who likes to boast of all their strategies to increase their already great fuel mileage? Now that obsession has a name:
Nempimania.
Here's the Wikipedia entry:
"Nempimania (also Nenpimania) is an obsession with getting the best fuel economy possible from a hybrid car. It is derived from the Japanese "nempi" (燃費) -- a contraction of nenryōshōhiryō (燃料消費量)[4] meaning fuel economy, and mania, meaning "craze for." Nempimania is exhibited by owners of the Toyota Prius and other hybrid owners by various habits aimed at maximizing fuel economy: slow starts, 'Pulse and Glide.' timing stoplights, driving barefoot, etc."
There is no known cure.

Hypermiling is for all gas cars not just hybrids.Infact why buy a hybrid when you can save your money and keep your car and improve its mileage through methods that cost you nothing?
Any regular gas car can improve mileage by 30-100% by adopting proper driving and maintenace techniques.Slower driving, filling tires to max pressure.
One of the top advocates of hm is wayne gerdes (he actually coined the term hypermiling) and has doubled the gas mileage in his regular gas, non hybrid honda accord from just 25mpg to over50mpg.
You can find out more about hypermiling at ecomodder.com and cleanmpg.com

What's the word for people who are addicted to punching nempimaniacs in the face?

Precious! As a former long-time Bay area resident, I'd tell potential Prius owners they'd do far more for the environment by bking, walking, carpooling, taking a bus, train, or ferry, instead of adding to traffic. Now that I know there's no known cure, I'll save my breath!
