Closed until Tuesday...

...That's the latest word from the CHP on Interstate 5. Here are the latest detours:

— Northbound from Los Angeles to Bakersfield, Sacramento: Take northbound I-5 to State Route 14, continue north to State Route 58 in Mojave and head west to State Route 99.

— Southbound to Los Angeles from Sacramento, Bakersfield: Take southbound I-5 to State Route 126, continue west to State Route 101 and head south.

— Eastbound State Route 126 to the Palmdale-Lancaster area: Take northbound I-5 to State Route 138, continue east. Another route is eastbound on State Route 126, which becomes Newhall Ranch Road, continue east to Bouquet Canyon Road and then turn west. Continue westbound to Soledad Canyon Road, turn left and continue eastbound to State Route 14.

Why are you people living in Lancaster and Palmdale and working in LA?
Why do you expect others to solve your nightmare of your own making?
What we have here is the child that killed his parents and then threw
himself on the mercy of the court because his was an orphan.
You made your bed; you sleep in it.
We will sleep in ours, thank you.

Its unfortunate there is no discussion about the ultimate alternative...Metrolink!

Grimes Canyon is not recommended for trucks. They're better off going to Saticoy and taking the 118 east.

I wish Metrolink would step up services while the 5 is closed. That would provide a much needed service for residents working in LA AND promote the Metrolink at the same time. Sounds like win-win to me.

This tragedy raises the question of why no discussion has been given to the concept of light rail from Santa Clarita to the Westside.

Many Santa Clarita Valley (and Palmdale, etc) residents work on the Westside or Downtown.

The 5 is a nightmare in the mornings and the evenings, and it sure seems as if a light rail path linking the Santa Clarita Valley with the Westside and LAX would help a lot.

Yet you never even hear discussion about it.

I hate getting any load going to CA, I-5 is nothing but a washboard north of LA, and the traffic around LA sucks!! If I am routed thru the LA area from anywhere east of there I will bite the bullet and run the dessert instead.

For all us OTR drivers bringing frieght in and out of CA they should have cross dock warehouses like at the MEX border!!! You don't want us there and we don't want to come there!! Most of the drivers have no respect for trucks and will cut us off any chance they get, MOTORCYCLES are the WORST!! I ride too so give us a break and don't split lanes around trucks!!!!

The other alternate is to take Metrolink through Santa Clarita. All of the three stations in Santa Clarita (Via Princessa, Saugus, and Newhall) have plenty of parking and train service is frequent during rush hour.
