405 mess

I405s Most lanes of the 405 at La Tijera Boulevard are closed this morning after the 4:45 a.m. crash of a big rig carrying a crain that left the driver dead. Traffic is backed up from the South Bay curve on the northbound side and beyond the 10 Freeway on the southbound side. And no relief is in sight for several hours.

What kind of absurdity is keeping big rigs off the freeways? I'd rather they be on the freeways than on surface streets. Simply put, the guy had no business being in the left lanes, and if he was fishtailing, it was either because he was driving erratically or the cargo wasn't secure enough.

Here something the MTA hasn't even considered yet in its Long Range Transportation Plan. How about a LRT line parallel to the 405/SepupelvaBlvd. going from LAX north to UCLA over/through the Sepulveda Pass up to Metrolink?

It's a no brainer for most of us.

A new carpool lane and widening the freeway only brings more cars and more traffic onto the already congested freeways.

Has anyone had difficulty with the L.A. hybrid metered parking program?

Just Dreaming

Is there a law that we can pass to keep big rigs off the freeways? They wreak havoc on our roads constantly. If they would drive 50 mph, then things would be different. The only safe truck drivers are from the grocery store chains, Ralph's , Von's, Albertson's, etc.

Lisa

Wasn't Crain the name of a publishing company?

It's a good thing that we're a world class city with a world class subway. That way all of the 405 commuters can get home tonight. Oh wait, that's right, no subway.

Marco

This is why L.A. should have a one lane dedicated to Trucks (18 Wheelers)only.

Greg

What was the truck driver doing outside of the 2 right-hand lanes in the first place?

SC

I live in the Fox Hills area of Culver City and woke up to the sound of an explosion around 4:45 this morning. Could this have been the truck??? Did anyone else hear it?

It happened at 5AM not PM--there are so many basic mistakes on this site it's hard to believe it's run by a major newspaper--very sloppy.

Chris Bucka

Umm...5 AM??? Welcome Back!
