60 widening, tightening
The long-awaited widening of the 60 Freeway in the San Gabriel Valley is resulting in some lane closures:
Commuters should expect lane and ramp closures on the Pomona (60) Freeway next week as construction crews work on a carpool lane and pavement replacement project, transit officials announced today. On the westbound 60, up to three lanes between Hacienda and Seventh avenues will be closed from 9 p.m. Sunday through 5 the following morning, and again on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights, according to Caltrans. The Seventh Avenue on- and off-ramps will also be closed from 7 p.m. Monday through 6 the following morning, and during the same overnight time period the following two days. Caltrans crews are adding one carpool lane in each direction of the 60 between the San Gabriel River (605) and Orange (57) freeways, a stretch traveled by an estimated 211,000 drivers every day, according to Caltrans.
