Destressing on the 405: Peppermint, M&Ms and yoga
Carpooling and using mass transit are fine. But what else can you do to reduce the stress of commuting? Forbes found some unexpected ideas: Bringing along a snack, buying a fancier car (that absorbs traffic noise better), "car exercises" and deep breathing techniques. Also: bring some peppermint or other herb you like to smell along for the ride:
Find the one thing that makes you look forward to getting in the car or staying in your seat a few extra minutes, even after you've parked. It may help you accept what you can't control and move on.

Like Michael L. said, recorded books are great!
I love a cheesy crime drama or a good autobiography. I've started listening to language recordings to brush up on my Spanish, but sometimes I get distracted trying to listen to certain parts.
In traffic, it makes the commute seem to go by faster and plus, I am not thinking about work as I drive.

books on tape make time fly by. You will never realize how much of your life you are wasting sitting in a car!! or, you could add up total hours a year spent sitting in traffic.

Set up a reward system for those who carpool and those who uses the public transit system at least 1 week out of the month.

The 405 Northbound/Southbound traffic is one of the 7th traffic wonders of the world! I drive from Valencia to Century City and no matter what time of the day...It's a parking lot.
Take the Santa Clarita Valley Transit bus - buy a portable DVD player or use your laptop and watch movies! aha! That takes care of the commute stress. Welcome Netflix or Blocbuster!..
