Egyptian authorities on Friday announced that they have ordered the detention of Suzanne Mubarak, the wife of former President Hosni Mubarak.

State-run MENA news service reported that the former first lady would be detained, although it was not clear whether she would be held at the women’s prison in Cairo.

The announcement came a day after the government reported that Mubarak and his wife were questioned by authorities concerning allegations of money being illegally siphoned from the country.

MENA said prosecutors ordered Suzanne Mubarak detained for 15 days pending further investigation of the allegations.

The 82-year-old former president is in a hospital in the Sinai resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. He has been questioned several times, but Thursday was the first time his wife faced interrogation.
