LIBYA: Kadafi forces and rebels battle in the heart of Misurata [Video]
A man's voice narrates the scene calmly, in formal Arabic, as if presenting a newscast or a documentary film as rocket fire lights up the sky and shelling periodically drowns him out.
The clip, which could not be verified, was posted on YouTube by a group calling itself the Freedom Group. It was supposedly shot on Wednesday and claims to show the ongoing fighting between forces loyal to embattled Libyan leader Moammar Kadafi and rebels in the western Libyan city of Misurata.
In the first scene, the narrator appears to be on one of the upper floors of a building somewhere close to the fighting. He points out what he says are snipers on the roofs of nearby buildings that look over the main street leading to the hospital complex.
"We don't know how many have been killed till now, but there are gravely wounded," he says, adding that streetlights have been turned on only in the center of the city to allow pro-Kadafi snipers to pick off rebels.
"We see Abdullah Gharib street completely empty of civilians or even civilian cars. ... Anyone in the street would be killed," he says, panning down to what looks like an empty commercial area, its shops shuttered."We will not abandon our land. ... We will keep our vow until the last drop of our blood."
The video cuts to a new scene in the street at night.
"Rebels are able to bring the lighting back to the city center; the rebels are surrounding the mercenaries and the snipers from four sides. ... Victory is near, God willing," he says. The clip jumps to a third scene, just a few minutes later, according to the narrator.
"Kadafi forces are shelling Misurata again with tanks after being surrounded from four sides by the rebels from Tripoli street near the People's Hall. ... They are hitting civilian areas with tank fire, and there is a lot of smoke."
He goes on to quote eyewitnesses saying two female Colombian snipers were detained and under investigation.
"Kadafi uses foreigners and women, he buys them with money, women from Latin America, to kill his own people."
