LIBYA: German Chancellor Angela Merkel calls Kadafi speech ‘frightening’

German Chancellor Angela Merkel described Libyan leader Moammar Kadafi’s speech on Tuesday, in which he said he was determined to stay in power, as ‘very, very frightening’ and said he had declared war on his own people.

Merkel told Reuters at a news conference Tuesday that if Kadafi did not stop the violence, she would support sanctions against Libya.
