An airplane fired at least one missile on or near a military armory complex a few miles outside the city of Ajdabiya on Monday afternoon, according to local residents.

There were conflicting reports as to whether the missile hit parts of the armory or landed nearby. But it did not strike any of more than a dozen buildings filled with weapons, which would have leveled parts of the city, military officials and residents said.

Residents reported hearing the loud sound of a plane overhead at 3:30 p.m., when many were having lunch.

Last week, two pilots in a fighter plane that reportedly was targeting the armory fired a missile about 25 miles from the site and ejected from the plane, leaving it to crash nearby.

An hour after the strike Monday, men gathered on the side of the main highway about a mile from the armory. Armed guards would not let people get closer.

‘This is a dangerous area,’ local resident Muhammad Omar Musbah said.
