LIBYA: Spreadsheet, photos, videos tally deaths online

Just as activists in Egyptcreated a Google spreadsheet of the missingduring protests earlier this month, Libyans have created a Google spreadsheet of the dead.

As of Monday, the list included 57 names and ranged in age from 1 to 38. All but two were in Benghazi, where protesters clashed with security forces over the weekend and reportedly succeeded in taking control of the city Monday.

The 1-year-old apparently died when a stray bullet entered the child’s bedroom in Benghazi on Friday, according to the spreadsheet.

Meanwhile, Libyan bloggers in the U.S., such as DJMeddi, have been posting graphic photographs of the dead, often referred to as ‘martyrs.’ Many of the photos show young men’s bloodied bodies on what appear to be the metal tables and shelves of morgues.

Videos have also been uploaded to YouTube showing the bodies of young men at morgues in Benghazi and Baida, purportedly protesters killed during clashes with security forces in recent days. The videos could not be verified.
