EGYPT: Pentagon moving warships, preparing for possible evacuations

Ship The Pentagon is moving U.S. warships and other military assets to make sure it is prepared in case evacuation of U.S. citizens from Egypt becomes necessary, officials said Friday.

The Kearsarge, an amphibious assault ship carrying 700 to 800 troops from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and the Ponce have arrived in the Red Sea, putting them off Egypt’s shores in case the situation worsens.

Pentagon officials emphasized that military intervention in Egypt was not being contemplated and that the warships were being moved only for contingency purposes in case evacuations became necessary.

In addition to the Marines, the Kearsarge normally carries around four dozen helicopters and harrier jets that would permit evacuations and other humanitarian operations, the officials said. More than 1,000 Marines from the Kearsarge were sent to Afghanistan last month on a temporary deployment, leaving roughly one-third still aboard, officials said.

In addition, the aircraft carrier Enterprise is in the eastern Mediterranean. The Pentagon originally announced that the carrier was heading through the Suez Canal for the Arabian Gulf, but the crisis in Egypt appears to have prompted a decision to keep it in the Mediterranean at least temporarily.

In the name of God the Merciful God is da word victory for the Arabs, God willing, America or Israel is estimated to Egypt is a country of Egypt the best soldiers of the earth God is great, O Egypt on you and your youth, not Egypt, O Israel, not America, Egypt is above all Egypt Guo divine nor military force fighting spirit in the battle and we Kdkm God willing

It finally looks like all hell is going to break loose perhaps on Friday after evening prayers. Allah, take care of the Egyptian people.

the egyptians are on the brink of bringing true, representative democracy to egypt peacefully in a matter of months, something the US thinks they could do with bullets and weapons in afghanistan, and have not been able to accomplish for over a decade. even iraq, while they hold elections, is a propped up government that doesn't represent the interests of a significant portion of the country (sunnis).

the US needs to stay out and let this happen organically. if we want to "help," we need to cut off aid to mubarak and leave it at that.

Better safe than sorry.

Americans have every right to evacuate their citizens living in Egypt, but America has to remember that Egypt is not an American state, it has no control or right to interfere. Egyptians will never allow Egypt to become another Iraq!

USA please dont interfere in our interests in egypt thats is our interests
& thats belong to us , its not ur business we will solve it by ourselves

this looks sort of ominous, doesn't it?...but if Egypt has "free" elections the whacko muslims take over, and what happens then?

I would like to say to America to forget to interfere in Egypt , As Egyptians its our game no need any help from others .
It's out peace revolution and we can care about it by our way.
NO NEED FOR HELP
