IRAN: Conservative media accused of playing loose with the facts

Check out the photos above. All purport to show President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad surrounded by swarms of followers during a July 16 trip to the eastern city of Mashhad.

The problem with the photos, all published on the websites of hard-line or government-controlled media that support the president, is that each shows him wearing a different suit.

Most likely, they are from past trips he took, thrown up on the Web with stories claiming that Ahmadinejad was greeted by tens of thousands of supporters.

The amateur video below, said to have been taken at the same event, shows a modest crowd.

Such incidents have begun to damage the credibility of state-controlled media.
