Danish and Turkish warships, part of a task force headed by the U.S., are being credited with chasing Somali pirates away from a Vietnamese ship in the waters off Yemen.

The Danish ship Absalon and the Turkish frigate Giersun responded to a distress call this weekend from a Vietnamese-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Aden. The ship reported being attacked by two fast-moving pirate skiffs.

The Absalon and Giersun dispatched heavily armed helicopters to deter the pirates, who broke off their attack.

The two ships are part of Task Force 151, a multinational anti-piracy effort.
