Private Hicks sacrificed about half a century of his potential life on earth.

What would he have done with all those years that might have made others happier and better off?

How will the lives of his family and loved ones be changed by his death?

Did his death contribute in some small way to a making America and the world safer and freer?

Did it help create a more stable and democratic government in Iraq?

Will his death be properly recognized by our society?

I hope that I am wrong, but I fear that his sacrifice has been all for naught.
