IRAQ: A plan for staying alive

The (highly-unofficial) Marine Corps Rules for Gunfights are tacked to the wall at a Marine outpost in the Iraqi town of Anoh in the Euphrates River Valley. Among the rules:
- Have a plan.
- Have a backup plan because the first plan won't work.
- The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.
- Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
— Tony Perry in Anoh, Iraq

Thankfully, I have never been in combat. But I did grow up in a not so nice neighborhood in LA. I can understand the need to make a survival plan that rests on eliminating threats around you. Some neighborhoods in LA (beyond the Westside) are places where if you look at someone in a way that they feel disrespected.... then you will likely have a major security threat to deal with. Worse yet, some people just want to mess around with you and potentially things can get very out of hand very quickly.
Thank you to all the Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and National Guard that keep us free and put themselves in harm's way everyday. God bless you all.
