Poll: Was 'Twilight Saga: Eclipse' robbed at the Teen Choice Awards?

Twilight Saga Eclipse

In past years, "Twilight Saga" films always swept the Teen Choice Awards and "Eclipse" was the fave to lead the way again Sunday night, but it got –- well –- eclipsed in some top races.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" pulled off a real magic trick by doing what the previous Potter pix couldn't do –- that is, drive a stake into the award hopes of the trendy vampire flicks. According to the award pundits at Gold Derby, "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" was expected to win choice sci-fi/fantasy film; Robert Pattinson was supposed to win male hottie sci-fi fantasy actor and share the trophy for best lip lock with Kristen Stewart.

However, "Harry Potter" won the film prize; Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson won the smooch award; Justin Bieber was hailed as top hottie. Watson even beat Stewart for best sci-fi actress. "Twilight" did win the actor's prize for sci-fi/fantasy fare, but it went to Pattinson's studly rival Taylor Lautner.

Lesser "Twilight" stars Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene won the scene stealer categories, and Pattinson won a token consolation prize -- choice vampire –- but otherwise there was little recognition for "Twilight" compared to previous years. Why? Is everybody just now caught up in hysteria over the release of the last "Harry Potter" film?

Teen Choice Awards 2011 winners

Robert Pattinson at the Teen Choice awards
When the "Twilight" film franchise comes to a close next summer, the movie's stars might want to consider opening up a surf shop. Because for what seemed like the umpteenth year in a row, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and the rest of the "Twilight" crew swept the Teen Choice Awards -- where instead of walking off with glittering trophies, winners take home waxed-up surfboards.

Lautner took home the prize for choice movie actor in a sci/fi fantasy flick -- "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," of course -- while Pattinson was named choice movie actor and vampire. Meanwhile, the film's lesser-known stars, Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene, were awarded the choice scene stealers prize.

All of the winners for the award show -- which were held at Universal City's Gibson Amphitheater on Sunday night and hosted by "The Big Bang Theory's" Kaley Cuoco -- were selected by the public via online voting in the weeks leading up to the telecast.

Some of the evening's other big winners? Taylor Swift, whose gal pal Emma Stone was on hand to honor her for scoring six different prizes.

Meanwhile, Swift's other BFF, Selena Gomez, performed with her band the Scene as her boyfriend, Justin Bieber, mouthed the lyrics to her new single and danced from the audience. Gomez took home five surfboards for choice TV comedy actress, music single, best love song, musical group -- and, most important -- female hottie.

Appropriately, her beau was named choice male hottie. How adorable. (He also won three other prizes, including choice twit -- whatever that means.)

Oh, but the adults weren't left empty-handed. Plenty of stars over the ripe age of 30, like Cameron Diaz, Ed Helms, Ellen DeGeneres and Ashton Kutcher all walked away with surfboards of their own.

Upon accepting the award for movie actor in a romantic comedy, Kutcher -- who seemed to have walked in straight off the set of "Two and a Half Men" -- took the opportunity to lecture the young'uns.

"Don't charge anything on a credit card if you don't already have money in the bank to pay for it," he cautioned. Then he broke into a rendition of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream." Enough said.

Predictions: 'Twilight Saga: Eclipse' will sweep Teen Choice Awards

Twilight Saga Eclipse Robert Pattinson Teen Choice Awards news

"Twilight Saga: Eclipse" will win at least six trophies at Sunday night's Teen Choice Awards, according to Gold Derby. Separate predictions made by the website's users and editors agree that it will sweep these six categories:

Choice lip lock: Robert Pattinson, Kristin Stewart
Choice male hottie: Robert Pattinson
Choice scene stealer, female: Ashley Green
Choice movie actor, sci-fi/fantasy: Robert Pattinson
Choice movie actress, sci-fi/fantasy: Kristen Stewart

Gold Derby's editors believe "Twilight's" Kellan Lutz will win Choice scene stealer, male, but the site's users pick Justin Timberlake ("The Social Network").

'Twilight Saga: Eclipse' scores 12 Teen Choice Award nominations

Eclipsestory2 "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" struck out at the Oscars, but the teen vampire movie is the "King's Speech" of the Teen Choice Awards. The pop culture phenomenon about an angsty teen played by Kristen Stewart caught in a love triangle with a vampire (Robert Pattinson) and a werewolf (Taylor Lautner) nabbed 12 TCA nominations.

"Eclipse" is competing for Choice Movie: Sci-Fi/Fantasy, along with acting, scene stealing and villain awards. However, for the teen set, all that really matters is the Choice Movie: Liplock category, which includes nods for Stewart’s smooches with Pattinson and Lautner.

Fans, who get to vote for their favorites leading up to the Aug. 7 show, will have to choose between the "Twilight" gang and their old rivals from "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 1," another top contender. But Teen Choice isn't just about the sci-fi/fantasy flicks, with a wide range of movies, music and television up for awards too. Scroll through the list to see who's battling it out for a surfboard this year.

Poll: Who gave the best acceptance at the MTV Movie Awards?

Twilight saga robert pattinson taylor lautner kiss"This will look really good on my downstairs toilet," Tom Felton ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1") said as he accepted the MTV Movie Award for best villain for the second consecutive year.

That was just one of the many outrageous things that occurred when winners took the spotlight at the MTV Movie Awards. But was that the best acceptance?

Perhaps Robert Pattinson gets to claim that distinction for ambushing Taylor Lautner with a smooch when he won best kiss along with Kristen Stewart ("Twilight Saga: Eclipse")? Right afterward, Pattinson grabbed Stewart and hauled her off, purring, "I want to take you backstage!"

Pattinson also had a remarkable acceptance speech for the best fight award, which he claimed for "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" along with Xavier Samuel and Bryce Dallas Howard.

When Howard said to him at the podium, "I guess I should say I'm so sorry I tried to hurt you, Rob," he replied: "It's fine. I ripped your head off ... and now you're pregnant."

Stewart had a truly winning moment when she bagged the golden popcorn statuette for best female performance over Natalie Portman ("Black Swan"). Gleefully, she exulted, "Natalie, sorry, but the popcorn is mine!"

MTV Movie Awards: Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner lock lips

Pattinson and Stewart
The most memorable moment at the MTV Movie Awards? That's easy. Robert Pattinson and "Twilight" costar Kristen Stewart won for best kiss (just like last year), but instead of giving the audience an in-person encore liplock, the lanky 25-year-old British heartthrob abandoned Stewart (who could be heard uttering, "Oh, man, this is silly") and bounded off stage. As the crowd cheered, Pattinson found Taylor Lautner (who plays his onscreen rival for Stewart's affections) and gave him a long, messy smooch on the lips.

Just as the MTV trophy show once gave us same-sex snogging between Madonna and Britney Spears and, more recently, Scarlett Johansson and Sandra Bullock, the pop-culture outlet has now given us a guy-on-guy kiss — or should that be a vampire and werewolf kiss?

MTV Movie Awards: Girl power votes in Robert Pattinson

Robert pattinson
"Harry Potter," "Twilight" and Justin Bieber were the brands to bet on in the awards categories Sunday night and no surprise considering the fierce loyalty and online power of young girls. The winners looked amused at times, and their acceptance speeches were just as odd as the categories.

Robert Pattinson -- the "Twilight" star who ranks titan of greatest magnitude with the Clearasil crowd -- and Bryce Dallas-Howard won in the best fight category, and Pattinson, looking at his pregnant "Twilight" costar, came up with this gem: "I ripped your head off and now you're pregnant."

Poll: Who'll win best kiss at the MTV Movie Awards?

Natalie-portman-mila-kunis-kissingNormally, when trying to predict who'll win the battle over best kiss at the MTV Movie Awards, it's safe to bet on "Twilight Saga" stars. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have won the category the last two years for the original "Twilight" and its "New Moon" sequel.

However, this year there are two nominee pairings from "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" -- Kristen Stewart's latest pucker with Pattinson, plus her sneaky smooch with Taylor Lautner. If they split the "Twilight" vote, then that means that all three could get, well, a big kiss-off at the MTV Movie Awards.

Daniel Radcliffe's awkward kiss with Emma Watson in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 1" could prevail, but beware: Radcliffe's earlier lip lock with Katie Leung in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" lost to Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman's smooch in "Step Up 2: The Streets" (2008).

A more likely usurper will be the girl-on-girl action between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis in "Black Swan." This category has a history of same-sex kisses winning like Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen ("Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," 2007) and Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal ("Brokeback Mountain," 2006).

Polls: Will 'Twilight Saga: Eclipse' sweep the MTV Movie Awards?

Twilight Saga Eclipse News"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" is probably a shoo-in to win best picture at the MTV Movie Awards, which will be doled out Sunday. After all, the first two installments of "The Twilight Saga" won the top prize in 2009 and 2010.

But what about the other categories? Is it possible that a bit of "Twilight" fatigue has set in? That's hard to imagine considering "New Moon" and its stars swept all five of its MTV Movie Award categories last year: best film, male performance (Robert Pattinson), female performance (Kristen Stewart), kiss (Pattinson and Stewart) and global superstar (Pattinson). It lost only two nominations and those were in categories where one "Twilight" contender beat another. (Pattinson crushed Taylor Lautner for best actor and Stewart for global superstar.)

Stewart has won best actress here for the last two years, but her loss to Pattinson in the superstar race suggests she might be vulnerable. She faces a major challenge in the lead actress contest from recent Oscar champ Natalie Portman in "Black Swan," which is so popular that it's also up for best picture at the MTV Movie Awards.

Check out the predictions of our forum posters.
