Dishing 'Boardwalk Empire' with Emmy contender Michael Shannon [Video]

Shannon 720 3Michael Shannon is a lucky Emmy contender: He's got one of the flashiest roles for a potential nominee. "Boardwalk Empire" recently won best drama series at the Golden Globes and best ensemble at the SAG Awards. As it sweeps through the upcoming Emmys, it will surely bag lots of acting nominations in addition to its inevitable bid for best series. That means Shannon may catch a ride.

In "Boardwalk Empire," Shannon stars as Nelson Van Aldon, a federal agent determined to conquer Atlantic City's bootlegging underworld. He's no angel, though. He's not only intrigued by his criminal nemesis, Nucky (Steve Buscemi), he lusts after Nucky's women and even gets one of them pregnant. On a whim, Van Aldon kills a thug during a bizarre baptism scene.

"When the TV season starts, he's trying his best to be both a good person and good at his job, but is thwarted at every step," Shannon said in our webcam chat. Soon he suffers a fall from grace, and "it's a pretty giant collapse," the actor added.

Shannon is a veteran awards contender and a past Oscar nominee for supporting actor ("Revolutionary Road"). He discusses all of this in our webcam chat below.
