Cannes 2011: FilmDistrict thrown for a ‘Looper’

A few years ago, the director Rian Johnson sat down to coffee with us and explained the plot of a script he was working on called “Looper,” a crazy quirky time travel tale involving hit men and fugitives.
Now audiences will get a chance to see the crazy quirky for themselves. The finished movie, which stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis, has been bought for U.S. distribution at the Cannes Film Festival by FilmDistrict, which will release it through Sony’s TriStar label, with which it has a relationship.
The Endgame Entertainment movie shot in Louisiana this past winter and spring. It involves a a hit man (Gordon Levitt) who kills victims that are sent back in time from the future (thus no trace of their bodies). But things go awry when he recognizes one victim (Bruce Willis) as his future self and the man escapes, setting off an elaborate chase and chain reaction.
No word yet on the film’s distribution date.
