Poll: Will poor Britney Spears ever win a top Grammy?
Now that Britney Spears is topping the music charts with her seventh studio album, "Femme Fatale," she'll soon —uh-oh! — be back in the Grammy derby again.
That's ominous news considering how Spears has fared at music's top awards show in the past. While she's won other major kudos (10 Billboard Awards, four MTV Music Video Awards), Britney's only nabbed one Grammy, and she's never been nominated in the top three categories: best album, record or song of the year. When she was nommed for Grammy's fourth-highest honor -– best new artist -– in 2000, the result was catastrophic: She lost to rival diva Christina Aguilera.
Of eight past nominations, Britney's only Grammy victory was for "Toxic" as best dance recording of 2005. Does that mean that she's a real femme fatale as far as the top Grammys are concerned?
The 29-year-old's turbulent personal life appears to have quieted down. But just this week she stumbled into another PR bobble when Enrique Iglesias tried to ditch their joint concert plans. And now she's been slapped with a sizable lawsuit related to her perfume line.
Of course, these PR and legal kerfuffles aren't entirely Britney's fault. But it's possible Grammy voters will pick up on this news and decide they still don't want to welcome her into their inner circle. Don't forget -- showbiz trophies are first and foremost about hugs. Winners are typically those the awarding bodies feel good about embracing.
Don't agree? Here are two shining examples: Eminem and Kanye West. Controversy follows them both as regularly as night follows day. West, especially, is prone to massive hissy fits when he feels disrespected. Grammy voters are happy to nominate both artists in genre categories and even for such marquee awards as album, record and song of the year. But despite critical and commercial praise, they never win those top trophies.
Dance-pop music is sizzling hot once again thanks to Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Katy Perry and Pink. And Spears has the technical wizardy of hitmaker Max Martin, among others, contributing to "Femme Fatale." It would seem she is a cinch for Grammy gongs in the dance and pop categories.
But will her reputation for unpredictability -- deserved or not -- continue to strike a sour note with music insiders?

its so easy for all of these people to write mean comments about her. Spending an ounce of your energy to post something negative about someone you don't know just shows how pathetic you all are. I sincerely hope you were all raised with more manners. She's a good person & you guys think you could judge her because of what you read and decide is Fact?
She's a class act & that's way more than I can say for these people.

Despite what you may feel about her talent or personal life, her music is always well-received by critics and the public. About her image: it has cleaned up over the last 3 years. She's a very mature woman now.
Many would argue Femme Fatale is her best album. A lot of people I know, Britney and non-Britney fans, seem to really enjoy it. We'll just have to wait and see!

What a question! You're kidding us right??? The untalented lip-synchingbumpngrindvideovamp puts out mediocre bubblegum pop fluff not worthy of any Grammy...Please! does NARAS need another Milli Vanilli moment in its history???

Seriously, enough with this mental midget. Her performance reviews are similar to that of her disasterous VMA mishap. She is a 29 year old ADULT that needs to be babysat all day every day just to make sure she behaves. She has no control over any aspect of her pathetic life. Her songs all sound the same and her "dancing" is uninspiring, slow and lifeless. She needs a ton of studio mixing and autotuning just to make sure she sounds well enough to sell a record. Her photos need to be photo shopped and airbrushed to death because in real life, she looks bloated, pimply and her hair looks like she doesn't ever comb it. This type of person does NOT deserve a grammy for it is everyone around her that has done all of the work. Not her. Enough of this moron. She will never be the super star she once was. Ever.

When this girl can sit her butt down on a stage and sing without the aid of backup singers, autotune, or any other funny electronics and when she sings rather than pretending to rap, speek singing or lipsynching, then we can talk about the grammies. Until then, she needs to get off the cigarettes and get into a singing and music appreciation class and WORK and EARN rewards rather than paying talented people to make her look and sound the way she sounds today.

You say dance pop music is hot again because of Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Katy Perry and Pink but Britney Spears was making that kind of music way before they all were. They followed in her footsteps, not the other way around. Anyone who's ever owned a Britney album knows she's always ahead of the trends.

She won't be nominated for the Top 3 awards until she starts co-writing all her stuff. But she'll be in the running for best/dance electronic or best dance recording though with Femme Fatale.
