Double Oscar champ Tom Hanks (‘Philadelphia,’ ‘Forrest Gump’) has won Emmys for producing TV miniseries (‘The Pacific,’ ‘John Adams,’ ‘Band of Brothers’ and ‘From the Earth to the Moon’), but he’s never claimed television’s highest honor for acting.

That’s curious, considering Hanks became a breakout star as a cross-dressing skirt chaser on TV’s ‘Bosom Buddies’ (1980-82). Since then, his only other acting role on the boob tube was as Uncle Ned on ‘Family Ties’ in 1984.

Last week, he tweeted the news that he’ll soon make a guest appearance on ‘30 Rock.’ That means he might finally strike Emmy gold for acting.

’30 Rock’ dominates the Emmy categories for comedy guest performances. It’s earned 16 nominations over the last several years for such notable stars as Alan Alda, Jennifer Aniston, Edie Falco, Carrie Fisher, Jon Hamm and Steve Martin.

Tim Conway won in 2008 for portraying a forgotten old TV star named Bucky Bright on ’30 Rock.’ In 2007, Elaine Stritch won for a guest spot as Alec Baldwin‘s shrewish mom.
