Oscars: Vindication for ‘Toy Story 3’?

It was one of the best-reviewed and most widely seen movies of last year. But one of the big questions on the red carpet in the run-up to the Oscars: How much are ‘Toy Story 3’ and other animated movies being recognized by more than just audiences?

John Lasseter, the head of Pixar who comes to the Oscars with ‘Toy Story 3’ -- nominated for best picture and animated feature as well as original song -- says it doesn’t worry him that no animated movie has ever won best picture. ‘It’s moving in a good direction,’ he told The Times on the red carpet. ‘I think it will happen in our lifetimes. Maybe sooner.’
