ANSWER: ‘The Turning Point’ (1977) and ‘The Color Purple’ (1985), each reaped 11 nominations but went home empty-handed. ‘Chinatown’ (1974) won one Oscar (original screenplay) out of 11 bids. ‘Anne of the Thousand Days’ (1969) reaped only one (costumes) out of 10 nominations.
