Looking gorgeous and trim in a form-fitting, custom Calvin Klein collection gown by Francisco Costa, Claire Danes took to the stage in the press room and confessed that she’d gained a few pounds and was working to lose them.

‘Where?’ said one journalist with disbelief under her breath.

What were Danes’ other New Year’s resolutions?

‘It’s always good to return phone calls, return e-mails. I’m not great at that. Just to be a better person, a better friend. To be more present.’

She went on to talk about her respect for Temple Grandin and her hope that due to her win, Grandin’s story and work will reach ‘millions.’

And she admitted that after working on a project as emotionally nuanced as ‘Temple Grandin’ it has been difficult to move on to other work -- although she has picked a role. It’s on a new Showtime series called ‘Homeland’ in which she plays a CIA agent who ‘also happens to have bipolar disorder.’

‘It’s a psychological thriller,’ she elaborated. ‘So it’s a lot less kicking and shooting as it is political intrigue.’
